Meet Our Instructor, Camilo

Camilo

Camilo's journey into the world of martial arts began with a foundation in Historical European Longsword. However, his path took a decisive turn in 2004 when he encountered Sifu Kenny Wang. This meeting sparked a dedication in Camilo to master the Northern Shaolin System, a commitment that remains unbroken to this day.

Over the years, Camilo's pursuit of martial arts knowledge has taken him to over seven countries, studying under various teachers and coaches. His repertoire of experience includes Capoeira, Bagua, San Da, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Sambo, and several other types of Kung Fu. Despite this extensive exposure, Camilo found an unparalleled depth and richness in the training and system imparted by Sifu Kenny.

Drawn to the vast array of strategies, movements, and concepts offered by Northern Shaolin, Camilo chose to concentrate on this system over more specialized ones. As an enthusiastic participant in full-contact sport combat, he has striven to adapt traditional Shaolin movements to modern settings. Every technique he teaches has been honed through full-contact training and competition, embodying a traditional blade sharpened by modern methods.

Despite his appreciation of the fighting arts, Camilo is a pacifist at heart. He views competitive combat as a form of play, a perspective that has shaped his love for fighting. He believes that while training can be challenging and intimidating, it should also be enjoyable. This philosophy underpins his approach to teaching, resulting in classes that are rigorous, fight-tested, and above all, fun.

Beyond martial arts, Camilo's skills extend to parkour and freerunning. He served as the head coach of a parkour and freerunning training facility in the US for several years and has been practicing parkour since 2006. His diverse background and unique approach make him a dynamic and engaging instructor.
